HELP Online Counseling Overview

What you see:

  • Login/ Password fields: username and password is established during registration
  • Remember Me box: check this so the program will automatically remember your username and password when you return to the site
  • Cessation exercise and Treatment menu: left hand side of screen
  • Menu icons:     = Locked     = Currently working on     = Completed


  • Red and Green text prompts: When you are completing your registration some fields are required. If you fail to complete a required field, that field will turn red and you will see the following message in the top right hand corner of screen: Required fields left blank. You must complete all required fields to move forward in the program. If you successfully fill out all required fields, you will get a green message in the top right hand corner of screen that indicates your information was saved (i.e. Membership saved). Similar green messages will appear as you complete and save cessation exercises and treatment sessions.

Step 1: Registration/ More about You

  • Establish membership information (i.e. username, password, etc)
  • Provide minimal contact and demographic information. Some demographic questions may be refused.
  • Provide basic tobacco usage information

Step 2: Complete Your Quit Plan

  • Complete each cessation exercise in the menu. Remember to click Save and Continue so your work is saved for each exercise.
  • As you work through and save exercises, you will automatically be progressed to the next exercise for completion.

Step 3: Begin Treatment Sessions

  • Treatment tabs will appear along top of screen: Treatment, Your Goals, Medical Screening, Order NRT, Send Message to Counselor
    • Treatment: Click to return current treatment session
    • Your Goals: Summary of Quit Plan goals
    • Medical Screening: Brief medical history questions
    • Order NRT: Mailing information and order status updates. (for eligible members)
    • Send Message to Counselor: Contact your counselor with questions, comments, concerns, etc.

  • Treatment Sessions: 1. Preparing to Quit 2. Quitting 3. Staying Quit
    • Preparing to Quit: Set planned quit date, make medication decisions, begin working quit plan goals, adjust goals with counselor as needed, etc. Will stay in preparation until planned quit date arrives.
    • Quitting: Session unlocks on planned quit date. Email reminder will be sent. Quitting session captures actual quit date and medication used, helps counselor assess for withdrawal symptoms, and allows for discussion of special concerns after quitting.
    • Staying Quit: Session unlocks two weeks after actual quit date. Email reminder will be sent. Staying quit session focuses on relapse prevention exercises.
